Dog Hears Elderly Man Fall Into Marina At Night So He Barks For Help To Wake His Human Up
A dog named Moe from East Bay, San Francisco, is being credited by the Pittsburg Police Department as a hero.
One night, Moe and his owner Joe Newman were at home, which sits along a channel by the Pittsburg Marina. At around 6 a.m., Moe began barking excitedly, which woke Joe up.
He went to investigate what was making the dog anxious. Joe discovered an older man had fallen into the marina. Apparently, the man had been taking an early morning walk when the incident happened.
“I came downstairs and got a flashlight and I heard the guy talking. He was halfway in the water sitting on the rocks,” Joe told KPIX San Francisco. “I said ‘What’s going on?’ and he said he needed help.”
Joe went inside, quickly got dressed, and was able to get the man out of the water. He brought the man into his home, then called 911 for help. The man was not drowning, but he found himself stuck in the water, and feared freezing to death.
The ambulance took the man to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the Pittsburg Police Department shared a message on Facebook congratulating the dog for his heroic instincts.
“Thanks to our friend and hero… whose barking awoke his owner; and when his owner went to see what all the fuss was about, saw the man struggling in the water. The man was able to be helped from the water and was extremely grateful to his new barking buddy!” they wrote.
